Fix Prisma error P3014

Resolve permission denied to create database without weakening tenant isolation.

What the error means

Prisma migrate dev tried to create a shadow database using DATABASE_URL. The Renviq application role does not have CREATEDB, so PostgreSQL correctly returned permission denied.

The Renviq fix

  1. 1Open Console → Databases.
  2. 2Choose Connect on the affected application database.
  3. 3Open Connect with Prisma.
  4. 4Create and test an isolated shadow database.
  5. 5Copy both generated environment variables and prisma.config.ts.
  6. 6Restart the development shell so it reloads .env.
  7. 7Run pnpm prisma migrate dev again.

Verify configuration

pnpm prisma validate
pnpm prisma migrate dev

Do not grant CREATEDB

Granting CREATEDB to the application role weakens shared-cluster isolation and bypasses Renviq provisioning, quotas, ownership, and audit controls. Do not use the production database itself as its own shadow database.

Still failing?

Make sure the shadow credential is unexpired, the copied URL is complete, and Prisma is loading the .env file you edited. Use the wizard’s Test action or replace the shadow database.
